Easter horror movie marathon, anyone?
If you’re like me, Easter’s more about holidays and chocolate than religion, although the idea of resurrection is a popular motif in horror.
Best of all, the extended weekend means it’s a great time to catch up on horror movies.
If you haven’t seen some of these, maybe give them a go, especially if you’re lying on the couch in a chocolate coma.
Even if you have, the darkness of horror movies might be just what you need when your brain’s all fuzzed out on sweetness and light.

Feaster Sunday (2020)
Thriller horror.
“Opening night is going to be KILLER!”
Dr. Gideon Lear just wants to put on the greatest Passion play this little town has ever seen, but his Jesus has disappeared, the lead actress is distracted by a love triangle with the understudy and a high school sweetheart, some filthy hobo won’t go away, and someone is painting ominous warnings on the door.

Dead Snow (2009)
Norwegian splatter horror.
Seven students arrive at a small cabin where they intend to spend their Easter vacation. A mysterious hiker turns up and he tells them about the Nazi death squad that occupied the area during World War 2. At the end of the war, the townsfolk attacked the soldiers and the Nazi survivors fled into the mountains where it was presumed they all died.
It’s not too long before zombie Nazis are slashing and hacking their way through the group.

Holidays (2016)
Anthology horror of eight short movies based around holidays.
“Surviving them is Hell.”
In the Easter story, a young girl is frightened by the thought of the Easter Bunny and her mother tries to explain how the bunny is connected to Jesus.
When the girl gets up in the night to get a glass of water, she sees a creature that seems to be a cross between crucified Jesus and the Easter Bunny.

With warrior-priest Father Asher hot on his trail, Cottontail starts a rampage leaving the bodies of the clergy (and a few schoolgirls) in his wake.

Night of the Lepus (1972)

An Arizona ranch is plagued with rabbits and the rancher wants to use an ecologically-sound control method.
A zoologist is called in to help and he begins injecting rabbits with hormones and mutated blood to try to stop them reproducing. But one of the test subjects escapes and begins a race of mutant giant bloodthirsty rabbits.

Two detectives are assigned to investigate a murder in which the man’s arm was severed.
Two more victims with missing body parts turn up and the detectives realize they’re after a serial killer that’s using the body parts to reconstruct the body of Christ.

Dead Heat (1988)

Consuming Passions (1988)
Comedy. OK, so this one isn’t horror, but it feels like it belongs in this list.
“A tale of greed, lust and death by chocolate”
A new worker at Chumley’s Chocolates accidentally knocks several workers into a mixing vat, the contents of which are used to make chocolates.
Reviews of the new chocolates are bad except for the places that got the ones with the ‘special ingredient’.
The worker then finds himself in charge of obtaining more of the ‘ingredient’ to satisfy the nation’s sweet tooth.
