Have a Hauntingly Good Time with These 6 TV Shows

6 TV shows about ghosts

Storytellers have been using ghosts as story fodder for as long as we know.

Ghosts are fantastic story elements that evoke heightened emotions in the characters and the audience. Ghost stories can leave us unsettled or sated, wondering about that creak late at night in the dark or happy that justice has been served and a confused soul has managed to move on.

The reasons we believe in ghosts are many and varied.

The human brain looks for patterns and cause and effect. Our minds don’t like to not understand and will make things up to fit the unexplained.

Many of us are uncomfortable with the thought that ‘maybe this is it, this is all there is’. The prospect of an afterlife, especially one that’s going to be a darn sight easier than this one, is reassuring, particularly after the loss of a loved one.

But one thing we’ve learned from our horror fiction: it’s not always easy to get through that light and into that afterlife and not all of us want to. Some souls can’t move on, can’t let go of the Earthly connection. Some are just plain evil and determined not to let death stop them.

TV shows can sometimes be more satisfying than movies because they have more time to spin the tale and put you in the heads of the characters so you can relate to them and feel what they’re feeling.
