The Monkey is a short story by Stephen King. It was first published as a booklet in Gallery magazine in 1980, then revised and included in the Skeleton Crew collection in 1985.

Two young boys find a cymbal-banging monkey in their great-uncle’s attic. It’s revealed that their father, as a child, found the monkey inside an antique chest owned by his missing father. It soon becomes clear that every time the monkey clashes its cymbals, someone close to Hal dies.
