We’d love to include your horror fiction or non-fiction stories on our website
We are not currently accepting submissions.
We’re sometimes open for submissions, depending on our workload.
The submission form below will only be available when we’re accepting submissions.
Short horror fiction from as few as 50 words, up to about 8000 words. We won’t quibble over a few extra words if they’re needed to tell a complete story.
Non-fiction articles about the horror fiction genre from 500 words, up to around 3000 words. We will consider longer if the article is complex and needs more words.
At this stage we can only publish stories in English. We are happy to consider stories already translated from other languages, but we don’t have the resources ourselves to do the translation.
We will not publish erotica, work that contains gratuitous cruelty or violence, fan fiction, or work that is blatantly discriminatory, such as sexist, racist, homophobic, or xenophobic.
We do not want stories or articles that have not been written by a real person. Please don’t submit AI-generated writing to us.
We don’t care if you’ve never been published before. We still want to read your work.
As long as the work you submit to us is your own or you have the rights to publish it, we don’t need to know about your personal circumstances, such as age, gender, race, sexual preference, where you’re from, and so on. We understand that some of these may be extremely important to you, so feel free to include this information in your author bio if you want to but don’t feel you must.
You do not have pay to submit your story or article to us.
Payment for your story can be negotiated and we may offer you a flat rate fee to publish the story on the FearSome Fiction website. The fee will be reduced if the story has already been published elsewhere.
We’re happy to include links to other works of yours or to your own website if that’s what you want, and we will promote your work on our social media channels.
We are based in Australia, so our payments are made in Australian dollars (AUD) and all payments are done through PayPal.
If you don’t want payment for your story, we won’t ask for any specific publishing rights. If you want to sell it or publish it elsewhere, you can do so at any time. It will remain on the FearSome Fiction website indefinitely, unless you ask us to remove it, in which case we will do so as soon as possible, no questions asked.
If you do want payment and your story has not been published elsewhere, we ask for first electronic publication rights and archival rights for a minimum of six months.
If the story has already been published elsewhere, we ask for electronic publication rights and archival rights for a minimum of six months.
If we pay you for the story, it will remain on the FearSome Fiction website indefinitely, but you can ask for its removal from the website after six months.
When you submit your work to us, you acknowledge that we may choose not to publish your work on our website.
We expect you to agree to minor editing where we believe it’s necessary. We will not charge you for this and we will not publish any of your work without you seeing the final version and consenting to publishing it.
If we have published your work on our website and you ask us to remove it, we will do so as soon as possible, no questions asked.
If we find you have plagiarized someone else’s work, or that the work has been generated by artificial intelligence tools, or that you did not have the rights to submit it in the first place, we will remove all of your work from our website and we will not accept any more submissions from you.
If you believe we have published your work but you didn’t submit it to us, please let us know using our Contact form.
Please reach out to us using the form below.
We will then contact you by email to let you know if we’re interested in your story or article and what to do next.
If we have published a story from you on our website, please wait 6 months before submitting another story for consideration.
If you have submitted your story elsewhere, please wait until you get a response from them before you submit it to us.
